Cock-a-hoop over Enfield’s cycling facilities

Enfield Council and Cyclehoop are providing safe and secure bike storage
– Three new residential Bikehangars have been brought to Enfield
– Another 15 Bikehangars are scheduled for installation around the Borough

Three new residential Bikehangars have been installed in Enfield providing secure and convenient on-street cycle parking for the Borough’s residents, keen to use their bikes.

As part of Enfield Council’s Cycle Enfield Scheme, another 15 residential Bikehangars are scheduled to be installed in coming months to join ten existing hangars, including seven that have already been made available for use on Enfield’s housing estates.

The three new Bikehangars can be found at Russell Road, Tottenhall Road and Lynbridge Gardens.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “As part of our plans to help encourage more active travel in Enfield, we’re providing secure cycle parking. Our rolling parking programme will see these fabulous Bikehangars installed on our streets, particularly around Enfield’s new cycling infrastructure.

“This is an important part of our cycling strategy. People need to be able to parks and store their bikes safely and conveniently. At the same time, we have been very careful to provide cycle parking that is sympathetic to the look and feel of the surrounding street environment.

“This subtle, but significant contribution to our cycling strategy demonstrates Enfield Council’s ongoing commitment to making cycling accessible and practical for all. It’s about transforming our high streets and town centres and in turn, improving the health and quality of our residents’ lives.”

The Bikehangars, which are supplied and run by Cyclehoop, are secure outdoor cycle storage facilities, which help to keep bicycles safe and protected from adverse weather conditions and theft. They are most suitable in areas where lots of people live in flats or homes without sufficient storage options.  The first hangar was installed in November 2016 in Bouvier Road.

Funded by Transport for London, they are gradually being rolled out across the Borough with the locations prioritised in response to requests from local residents and around the new cycling infrastructure. Where these Bikehangars are installed, residents are able to request a space at www.cyclehoop.rentals. Cycle Enfield is about transforming our high streets and town centres, promoting more active travel, and creating safe and secure cycle routes. It is about encouraging residents to think about how they travel around the Borough.
